Where to Listen

Childhood

Marvallous Keene

Marvallous Keene was born on July 5th 1973 and his parents were Bernice and Maynard Keene. Marvallous had an older brother named Morice who was 2 years older than he was. When Marvallous was born, his father Maynard abandoned the family and never came home. 2 years later, Bernice divorced Maynard and he started a new family in California. Their mother did the best she could and always reinforced the importance of school and church. At church the boys joined their youth group and sang in the choir. Without his biological father, Marvallous grew close to his mother’s second husband James Douglas. James appeared to be just like Maynard though and he would leave for long periods of time without returning home, causing confusion and mistrust with the family. James left the family for a whole year before Bernice filed for divorce. She eventually found another husband who did stick around! But… he was a serious drinker who would gamble away their money and verbally and physically abuse the family. This marriage quickly crumbled leaving the boys without a father for the third time. Through it all, Marvallous and his brother Morice grew very close. Without any reliability or trust from a father figure, they learned to rely on each other for support. Marvallous thought of his brother as the typical cool older brother. He was out going and social but Marvallous was always timid and shy, only ever trusting his mother, grandmother and Morice with anything. Bernice married again for the last time to a man named Marvin Parker who the boys seemed to like. The boys at this point were attending Meadow Dale Highschool where Marvallous made good grades and was never in any trouble. Also at this time, the two started to reconnect with their biological father Maynard who would make phone calls and occasionally come visit. Morice had an easier time connecting with their father but it was much harder for Marvallous since he’s never met his father. Things were really starting to look up for the family, but Morice started down a slippery slope after he started hanging out with the wrong crowd.  On March 13th 1991 Morice and his buddy decided to commit an armed burglary. They attempted to rob a well-known drug house but a 27-year-old woman killed Morice at only 19 years old. This absolutely devastated Marvallous. After this, he flunked out of school in his final year and decided he wanted to move to California to live with Maynard, his father. His mother agreed and Marvallous left in August of 1991 and moved in with who father who had 3 more kids and a wife and they lived in a mostly white, suburb in Orange County. Things were good at first, he graduated high school and got a full-time job, however, his grandmother, passed away which crushed him once more. 2 of the 3 people who trusted the most were now gone and soon his father would send him back to Dayton Ohio. Maynard was having financial troubles; he missed several car payments and Marvallous was causing very expensive phone bills from calling back to Ohio. A blow-up fight happened where Maynard called his son “lazy and spoiled” and after this Marvallous went home to his mother.

Marvallous’ Early Life as a “Gangster”

After returning home, Marvallous slowly took a very dark path, carrying guns, acting like a gangster and heavily drinking and doing drugs. He would ramble on in anger about the death of his brother, and cursed the courts for ruling his brother’s murder as self-defensive. In November of 1992, Marvallous quit his job at a nursing home he was working at and got into a fist fight with a man at the bus stop. After winning, he heard rumors about someone threatening to shoot up his house and at this point Marvallous saw it best to leave him home. He found refuge at an apartment rented out by Bill McIntire at 159 Yuma Ave, in Dayton. There he met a group of various deliquiates, ex-cons and runaways. At this point Marvallous was 19 and was drinking and begging for money in downtown Dayton with his new girlfriend Laura Taylor who was 16. Marvallous picked the new name “Marvel” and bragged to his new group of friends that he was a part of the notorious street gang the Crips in California and he was in hiding because he shot a rival gang member. The group believed his stories and he named his new gang the “downtown posse”. However, as we know, this was not part of Marvallous’ story at all. He grew up a pretty average life, with some definite misfortunes yes, but nothing compared to the horrific upbringings of some of his new friends. He was simply a young adult who was rebelling for his circumstances and rage about his brother’s death. Marvallous and Laura found enough money to pay for a few nights in a cheap motel where they continued to drink and do drugs but after a few days the couple fled back to the apartment on Yuma Ave, where they met up with the rest of the crew. Now lets meet the other lovely members of the “downtown posse”.

“The Downtown Posse”

Heather Mathews who was 20 years old was just released from prison in October and was friends with Laura. They reconnected in courthouse square in downtown Dayton where they would panhandle and do sex work for money. She would then come to the apartment with her Ex-boyfriend Jeffry wright who was 28 and there they would do crack. Next, we have 17-year-old Demarcus Smith who was hiding from police for a parole violation. Next, is Marvin Washington who was 18 and was released from a youth detention center and he brought his 16-year-old girlfriend Wendy Cottrill who was 3 months pregnant. Wendy fled home because her parent disapproved of her dating black boys and she knew they would be furious she would be having his child. And finally, we have Nickolas Woodson who was 20 years old. He lived at home with his parents but visited the apartment on occasion.

The Murder of Joseph Wilkerson

On December 24th, Laura and Marvallous were bored and didn’t know what to do. This is when Laura decided they should rob an acquaintance of her, Joseph Wilkerson aged 34 who lived in a nice home on Prescot Ave. She said he would have some things they could steal. Their genius plan unfolded. The two would go to the home and Laura would seduce him into having an orgy with Heather and herself. The trio walked to the home and Laura was invited inside. And I want to say one thing. He’s 34 and she is 16! So, after having a couple of drinks, she took Wilkerson into the bedroom alone. After a few moments Marvallous and Heather entered the room and all four of them started to pull down their pants. Marvallous then swiftly pulled a gun on the man and ordered Laura and Heather to tie his hands to the bedposts. Marvallous stayed with the man while Laura and Heather robbed the home, taking a microwave, a TV, a cordless phone, a curling iron and a blow dryer and a 32-caliber derringer pistol in the garage. They gave Marvallous the derringer and the two then loaded the items in Wilkersons red Buick. Marvallous then covered Wilkerson in a blanket and shot him in the chest. Wilkerson was shaking under the blanket and the girls ran in. Marvallous told Laura to finish him off. She pulled the trigger and it jammed, but Marvallous had his personal gun, a 25-caliber automatic. She shot Wilkerson in the head once and killed him. Marvallous and the girls then left in the Buick. Marvallous warned his accomplices not to tell Wendy Cottrill or Marvin Washington about what they did.

So, I think after this the trio look the stolen items and the stolen Buick back to the Yuma apartment and Wendy and Marvin saw them unloading the stolen items.

The Murder of Danita Gullette

Danita Gullette

Later that evening the Down Town Posse decided they were still thirsty for blood. They left In Wilkerson’s Buick and went out looking for another victim. Wondering the streets was 18-year-old Danita Gullette who was calling someone on a pay phone. Danita Gullette was a single mother of a 2-year-old child. She was born and raised in Dayton and was the youngest child of her parents Peter and Helen Gullette. She attended and graduated from John H. Patterson High School in Dayton, and was majoring in Drafting. At the time of her passing, she worked at Rallys Restaurant to support her and her child. She was at a Christmas get together with her family and her child at her mother’s house down the road. She left to get some air and to go make a phone call and that’s when Marvallous held Danita at gun point while the group mugged her, taking all of her belongings as well as her shoes and jacket.  Even though Danita was cooperative, Marvallous and Damarcus Smith shot Danita and left her to bleed out in the street. When they returned to the apartment, Laura was wearing Danita's jacket and Damarcus was carrying Danita's shoes. Besides the jacket and shoes, the crew made out with 50 cents they stole from her purse.

After this Heather and Damarcus starting cuddling up on the couch. This is when Jeffrey Wright, Heather’s ex-boyfriend, walked into the apartment. He was not happy to see his girlfriend getting close with another man. Jeffrey argued and started pushing heather around until Damarcus started shooting at Jeffrey. He fled the apartment and ran into a field where Damarcus followed him and kept shooting. After emptying the gun Damarcus walked away and Jeffrey ran to a neighbor's house and was rushed to the hospital where he would survive. Marvallous, Heather, Laura and Damarcus then left in Wilkerson’s Buick. Marvallous drove the group back to Wilkerson’s house where they planned to steal his other car, a Pontiac Grandam. They all drove back to Yuma apartment again and slept until the evening on Christmas day.

The Murder of Richmond Maddox

Richmond Maddox

That evening, Laura decided she wanted to kill her ex-boyfriend Richmond Maddox who was 19 at the time. The group agreed and Laura called Richard and told him she wanted to see him and wanted to get a hotel room together. Laura met him at his family home and after they pulled away the rest of the Posse, who were driving the stolen Pontiac, started following behind Richard and Laura. Richard suspected that the car was following him and stopped at a pull off for a second. The Pontiac stopped too and Richard slammed the gas and took off. At this moment, Laura took out the 32 Derringer handgun and shot Richard in the head. Laura then jumped out of the car before it crashed into a tree. She jumped in the Pontiac and they took off.

Dayton Police were busy at work. They had already discovered Danita Gullette’s body at the payphone and were working on the investigation. Then they were called to the scene of the crash by neighbors who heard the commotion. Here they found Richard’s body behind the wheel with the gunshot wound in his temple.

On December 26th. In the early morning, Heather drove the Pontiac to a BP service station, where Marvallous and Damarcus saw an easy target, Kathy Henderson alone filling her tires with air. Heather parked the car next to the women and Marvallous and Damarcus got out and held the driver of the car at gunpoint. Kathy ran away before the crew could shoot her but the two stole her Black Dodge Shadow and Heather followed in the Pontiac. After driving for a while, the crew stopped and the men said they wanted to rob a store and Laura said she knew the perfect place.

The Murder of Sarah Abraham

Sarah Abraham

The crew abandoned the Dodge Shadow and drove to the Short Stop Mini-Mart in the Pontiac. The plan was for Laura to enter the locally owned store and scope it out. If she didn’t return to the car within a few minutes that would be Marvallous and Damarcus’s cue that to cost is clear to come in and rob the store. So, Laura entered the store and encounter 3 people. First was the shop owner Sarah Abram. Sarah Abram was a single mother of 4 children and she immigrated to the United States with her youngest daughter who was 11 years old. The oldest children stayed in Ethiopia. Her family opened the store and worked endless hours to make any kind of profit. Laura also spotted another employee Jones Pettus who was the shop helper and another customer Jimmy Thompson. To kill a few minutes, Laura grabbed a few items from the shelves and took them to the counter to pay. The items totaled 50 cents, which she could’ve used the 50 cents she got from robbing Danita Gullette but apparently, she didn’t have enough money. Jimmy Thompson gave her the remaining nickel she needed to make the purchase. At that point Marvallous and Damarcus burst into the store, guns drawn. Marvallous first targeted Sarah Abram and demanded for her to empty the cash register and she complied, handing over 40 dollars in total. Regardless of her compliance, Marvallous shot Sarah in the face and head, severely injuring her. Damarcus shot at the men, hitting Jones Pettus in the stomach and missing Jimmy Thompson. Jimmy pretended he was shot and slumped over the counter so he wasn't actually killed. Jones Pettus and Sarah Abram were rushed to the hospital. Jones survived through medical attention and Sarah did good for a few days but did end up dying four days later on December 31st.

The Downtown Posse continued taking victims left and right in the town of Dayton, and the police were struggling to connect the dots. Finally, when they examined the bullets at the crime scenes, they realized that the same weapon was responsible for all the shootings.

The Posse fled the store in the Pontiac and returned to the abandoned Dodge Shadow. There they took the plates off the Pontiac and put them on the dodge. Then they picked up Nickolas Woodson and drove back to the Yuma apartment.

At this point Marvallous, Heather, Demarcus, and Laura had started to get paranoid. Worry started to set in, fear that one of their own might snitch and turn them into the police. They had taken what they believed to be 6 lives. It was 4 lives since Jones Pettus survived and Jimmy played dead. The group decided it was time to have a discussion about the killings.

The Murder of Wendy and Marvin

Marvin Washington (left) Wendy Cottrill (right)

They agreed to eliminate the only people who knew about the crimes: Wendy Cottrill and Marvin Washington. The group never told the full extent of the brutality but nonetheless Wendy and Marvin knew and had no blood on their hands. They could tell the police any day with no repercussions. According to the testimony of Heather in her trial, she and Laura discussed "jumping" Wendy after believing that she might tell on the group. But Heather also stated According to her testimony, there was no discussion of shooting Wendy.  Damarcus’s intentions were more out of selfishness he thought of getting rid of Marvin (as well as Wendy) for having known about his involvement in the shooting of Jeffrey Wright. Damarcus had little to no real harm or murder on his hands. Except for Jeff Wright, Damarcus and Heather were the only ones to not kill anyone. In a conversation with Laura, Heather, and Nickolas- Damarcus said to them that "he was going to unload a clip in [Marvin Washington’s] ass." According to Marvallous’s confession, Damarcus "thought that Wendy and Marvin were going to snitch about [Damarcus] shooting Jeff Wright." Marvallous was just happy to provide his helping hands. The four were in agreement. Shut up Wendy and Marvin.

They drove to the Yuma apartment and picked up Marvin and Wendy in the car and enjoyed some beers and wine. Nickolas Woodson could tell the group was being weird and knew what was going on but didn’t want to be involved with murder, so the group dropped Nickolas off at his parent’s house. Then the group drove and turned onto Richley Drive; up the road was an old gravel yard. Driving directly to a gravel pile, Marvallous stopped the car to go to the bathroom but Damarcus pulled his gun and ordered Marvin out of the car, and Marvallous dragged Wendy out. The couple pled with the group saying “We didn’t go to police, we didn’t snitch!” The killers shoved and dragged Wendy and Marvin behind the gravel pile, pushing them down to their knees, while they continued to plea for their lives. However, Marvallous shot and murdered Wendy and subsequently her 3-month unborn child, while Marvin was shot by Damarcus. The two were murdered execution style and left for dead.

The Snitch

Dayton police were made aware of the stolen Dodge Shadow by none other than Nickolas Woodson. Wendy and Marvin barely knew anything about the murders but Nickolas was the one who actually saw Wilkerson’s dead body. He thought that if the gang could murder Marvin and Wendy, there was a chance they’d kill him too. He called the police after he was dropped off by the posse and told them about the stolen Dodge Shadow, Pontiac and Buick and he also confessed to seeing the body of Wilkerson. He was scared for his life, so an officer was sent to the home to pick him up and keep him at the station until they were caught. There he gave the name of Damarcus Smith and the first name of Heather. He didn’t know Marvallous or Laura’s names but gave descriptions of them too.

A “be on the lookout” was sent out to the local police about the stolen vehicles. A police officer tailed the group's car after spotting the group behaving suspiciously. They were returning to a friend's house where they had apparently left the Pontiac they stole from Wilkerson. And I’m very confused on where the cars were at different times and which car they were driving. But either way Damarcus who was driving, saw the police car and sped off and a chase ensued. After reinforcements arrived to the car chase, Damarcus stopped the car and fled on foot. Leaving the rest to fend for themselves inside the vehicle. Police swarmed the vehicle, guns drawn and Marvallous, Heather, and Laura were arrested on scene. Damarcus was captured within hours at him home. An officer went with Damarcus to his closet to get clothes and there he found Danita Gullette's stolen shoes.

After Police were given the description of the other stolen car, the Pontiac, they searched the info, they found it belonged to Wilkerson. They went to his home and found his body in the bed, that was deceased for a few days.

The group was brought in and questioned separately. Marvallous was asked about the murder of Wilkerson, Gullette and Abram and he confessed to killing them. He did not mention killing Wendy or Marvin though, since he wasn't asked about them, because their bodies were discovered at that time. All of the Posse gave up information except for Laura who was the youngest shockingly. She refused to talk and requested a lawyer.

Heather was the only member of the Posse to not fire a gun or kill anyone. She quickly gave up the most information about the crimes and she was the one who let detectives know about the murders of Wendy and Marvin.

Trials and Sentencing for Heather, Laura and Damarcus

The two adult offenders, Heather Matthews and Marvallous Keene, were both arraigned in the Dayton Municipal Court to be held on a cash bond of $5 million and faced charges of aggravated murder and robbery.

Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. expressed his intention to seek the death penalty for both Marvallous and Heather; under Ohio state law. The other two offenders Damarcus and Laura were both juveniles at the times of their crimes. They would be tried by the same Judge BUT Damarcus and Laura were held without bond and charged in the Montgomery County Juvenile Court. Heck sought to try both Damarcus and Laura as adults, which may carry at least a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. But since Damarcus and Laura were underage when committing the murders, capital punishment was not allowed regardless if they were charged as minors or as adults. It didn’t matter.

Heather was granted a plea bargain after some discussions between the defense and prosecution. The prosecution agreed to take the death penalty off the table as a condition of the plea deal in exchange for her testimony against the other 3.

It was decreed that Heather would not be eligible for parole for a minimum period of 53 years for each life term. Heather was then sentenced to two consecutive life sentences and was not eligible for parole for 114 years or until the year 2132.

Both Laura Taylor and Demarcus Smith, who were tried as adults but still ineligible for a death sentence were sentenced to life in prison. They were tried in January and February 1994 for the murders. Laura won’t be eligible for parole until 2098 and Damarcus won’t be eligible for parole until 2123. After the end of the trial, Laura Taylor appealed against her murder convictions and life term and on November 17, 1995, the Ohio Second District Court of Appeals rejected her appeal which was her final attempt of freedom.

Heather was very distraught over the sentences and she stated to the courts that she never had a chance to marry Damarcus. But she was happy the legal process was almost over. She also reportedly described prison life as “no life” and that “she found nothing in her will to live” as well as wishing to kill herself.

Both Demarcus Smith and Heather Matthews did not appeal with respect to their cases, and remain in prison serving their life sentences.

The Trial and Sentencing of Marvallous Keene

Lastly was Marvallous Keene. Marvellous prior to his arrest and trial, did not have a criminal record. He was charged with murdering five of the six victims in the Christmas killings, four of whom he was the triggerman. He was not charged with any crimes related to Richard Maddox who was Laura’s ex-boyfriend that she killed in the car. Marvallous waved his right to a jury trial and instead stood trial against a three-judge panel. Each charge also carried numerous death specifications or aggravators including course of conduct, escaping detection, aggravated robbery and burglary, kidnapping, and witness murder for murdering Wendy and Marvin. Each of the aggravating circumstances for each charge were also separate charges on their own as well and all of this totaled 20 different charges. Each charge had a firearm specification as well. Marvallous was basically in deep shit. The Judges deliberated and found Marvallous guilty of all 20 counts.

A sentencing trial was then conducted between October 25 and October 27, 1993. On October 28, the three judges opted to impose the death penalty for each count of murder. Marvallous plead for leniency before the court was adjourned. He revealed to the court his brother had died in a shooting a year before his killing spree. He had a majorly troubled and emotional mental state. He wasn’t thinking clearly. He and his father had just had a falling out, and they weren’t speaking. But the court decided to stick with their decision as well as choosing to adjourn the sentencing to a later date.

Marvallous was sentenced to 5 death sentences during a formal hearing on December 10th, 1993. He was also sentenced to serve two consecutive life terms for the lesser charges against him, the time he is to serve is ranging between 121 and 293 years. Montgomery County Assistant Prosecutor Angela Fyrdman described the death sentences of Marvallous as “a just sentence and it symbolized the judiciary's commitment to protect society”.

On December 15, 1993, Five days after he was sentenced to death, under the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Marvallous was officially transferred to death row.

Marvallous’ Appeals

Marvallous Keene, spent more than a decade appealing against his death sentence.  On January 21, 1998, Keene filed an appeal to the Ohio Supreme Court

He filed a motion in the trial court to dismiss the death specifications from the indictment for "discriminatory enforcement." He claimed that the Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney discriminates against black defendants in exercising his discretion to seek the death penalty.

On May 13, 1998 the appeal was dismissed

Marvallous appealed again and this appeal stated he had earlier argued that the prosecution's decision to pursue the death penalty against him was racially motivated since he was African-American while his other adult co-defendant Heather Williams was White and did not face the death sentence after reaching a plea bargain. Keene cited under similar circumstances a precedent case where a series of murders were committed. These murders were under a file called the Dayton Murders. The case did not end with the three accused on death row. All of whom accused was white. “the state contends that the evidence against these defendants was significantly weaker than the evidence against Marvallous. Two of the defendants received plea bargains and testified against the third; in spite of this, the third defendant was acquitted of one of the two murders.”

Another factor Keene had cited in his appeal to use as supporting evidence towards his claim of racial discrimination caused by capital punishment was A case study showing that there was a 9% population of African Americans in Ohio, yet 49% of the death row population in Ohio were of African American descent. “Court of appeals noted, this statistic creates no inference of discrimination by itself.” Another quote from court debunking Keene’s claim is “. "[T]he general rule [is] that in cases involving discretionary judgments `essential to the criminal justice process,' statistical evidence of racial disparity is insufficient to infer that prosecutor in a particular case acted with a discriminatory purpose."

Again, trying to support his theory, his codefendant Heather only got life in prison and was allowed to reach a plea deal. Whereas he was not offered any pleas.

However, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals found that Marvallous' arguments did not hold much weight in his favor. He was sentenced to death because he personally shot and killed 4 of the 6 victims, with the firm intent to brutally hurt each of the victims. Marvallous’ direct involvement led to all of the murders except one, when Laura shot Richard. hence the decision to seek the death penalty solely against Marvallous was not proven to be racially motivated.

He also submitted that his due process rights were violated by surviving witness Kathie Henderson's pre-trial identification of him as the shooter which was found to be unduly suggestive. He said that she described Marvallous as having a box haircut and when they did the lineup, he was the only person with a box haircut. He argued that this made it suggestive to Henderson that he was in fact the shooter. They did end up rejecting this argument also and on April 25, 2008, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Marvelous's appeal.

DEATH WARRANT FOR Marvallous

April 9, 2009 almost 17 years after the murders. Prosecutors of the state finally filed applications to the Ohio Supreme Court to schedule the execution date of Marvallous Keene, who had exhausted all his avenues of appeal at that point in time.

On May 6th, 2009, almost unanimously the courts sided with the death penalty, a majority decision of 6–1, the Ohio Supreme Court approved and signed a death warrant for Marvallous. The court ordered that his death sentence should be carried out on July 21, 2009.

He did not request for clemency, but A clemency hearing was conducted without him. A seven-member panel of the Ohio Parole Board heard the case to decide whether to recommend clemency.

Rhonda Gullette, Danita Gullette’s surviving sister, represented 15 family members of Marvallous' victims as a whole. She was the first and only speaker for the families in the hearing. She spoke of her family's irreparable loss and the devasting impact her sister's death has had on her and her family, and their community.  Rhonda told the board that she wrote a letter to Keene, asking him why he killed her sister. Keene never wrote back, so as to not prolong the pain of his victim's families, during the hearing, Keene directed his lawyers to not submit any evidence in mitigation.

The board of paroles unanimously rejected the clemency, 7–0. The board found that Marvallous did not warrant mercy for he had murdered the victims in "a cold and calculated manner”. The Ohio governor Ted Strickland similarly concurred with the board's findings and declined to grant clemency to Marvallous a week before he was to be executed.

Marvallous’ Execution

After the loss of his clemency plea, during his final days on death row, Marvallous did not file any last-minute appeals. On the eve of his execution, he was transferred to the death house at Lucasville from the Ohio State Penitentiary, where he would be under 24-hour death watch surveillance before the execution took place. Marvallous, aged 36, arrived at Lucasville at 9:43 a.m. Monday and staff members gave him a medical evaluation. “He’s generally been calm,” said Spokeswoman Julie Walburn. The nurses had to check his veins to be sure they could accept the intravenous lines containing a lethal cocktail drugs.

He did not request to meet with family members, and none of them were known to be attending his execution and officials expected nine people from the victims’ families to witness, though. On his final day Marvallous ate his last meal consisting of a porterhouse steak with steak sauce, a pound of fried jumbo shrimp with cocktail sauce, French fries, onion rings, dinner rolls, 2 plums, a mango, a pound of white seedless grapes, German chocolate cake, 2 Pepsis and 2 AW cream sodas. On Tuesday, July 21st 2009 Marvallous Keene entered the death chamber. Wendy's mother, Donna Cottrill, stood to acknowledge it but Marvallous didn't acknowledge her or look directly at anyone as he lay on the gurney. When asked if he had a final statement before his execution, he said, "No, I have no words."  He stared at the ceiling, and closed his eyes. He seemed ready to accept death. At 10:36 a.m, Marvallous Keene was pronounced dead and was officially declared the 1000th person executed by lethal injection in America!!

Outside, about 25 protestors sang "Amazing Grace" as the hearse carrying Marvallous' body drove away.

The 1000th Execution Reaction

Because of this execution the European Union presidency, held by Sweden at the time, released a statement noting the 1,000th lethal injection execution and calling on the U.S. to halt executions, pending the abolition of the death penalty. "The European Union is opposed to the use of capital punishment in all cases and under all circumstances," the statement said. "We believe that the abolition of the death penalty is essential to protect human dignity, and to the progressive development of human rights." The death penalty is abolished in the European Union, and the United Nations General Assembly has called upon all countries that use it to stop executions and end the practice. But no one complied of course.

Sentence Served
